So, you want to remodel your home and are excited to get started — but wait, is it the best time to remodel? Is there a specific time of the year that’s best to do home construction? We’ll break it all down for you.
If you’ve decided that early in the new year is a great time to remodel your home, you may just be in luck! The months between January and March are generally slower for construction, and you may just get your remodel done for a little less than at other times of the year.
However, although we’re lucky that the weather on Vancouver Island doesn’t get below freezing often, we do see a lot of rain. This can mean it may be a little more challenging to get the job done (although at Bennefield Construction, we’re used to working in all elements!). It’s also harder to navigate how you can stay in your home during the home construction.
Spring is the most popular time for most people to start remodelling projects. The weather is nicer, and people are beginning to think about what they want to do with their homes for the summer. Not to mention, people’s finances are often back on track with tax refunds coming in at this time.
However, as we mentioned, this is the most popular time of the year to start on home construction projects. So, some crews may be busy juggling projects or simply not have time for you at all. If possible, plan ahead for your spring remodel to ensure you get the home builders you want.
Although there won’t likely be any rain delays during the summer, heat can bring its share of problems, too! Summer is the best time to do smaller home construction projects — like a bathroom or kitchen remodel, instead of a larger space or whole house remodel. Remodelling entire houses or attics can be overwhelming for your home builders in the summer. And much like in the spring, it can be hard for people to find crews who have availability.
However, during the summertime, your family may have a trip planned or access to a summer cabin. This means your family can be out of the home while the remodel is happening, making it the perfect time to do one.
Much like spring, fall can come with iffy weather, which could cause possible delays. And much like winter, fall is generally considered an off-season for home construction. Not to mention that it’s also the time of year when most people want to hunker down and start planning their holiday parties. And because it is a slower time of year, occasionally supplies can take longer to arrive — which can also cause delays.
On the plus side, however, much like in the wintertime, you may be able to get the work done for a bit less than in peak season. And it will likely be easier for you to find construction crews to do the job.
So, if you’re planning a fall remodel, try to do it as early in the fall as possible, so potential delays don’t run into your holiday plans.
